The Role of the School Counselor:
As your school counselor, it is my role to assist and promote the mastery of student skills in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year through individual, group, and classroom counseling experiences in addition to all the other wonderful opportunities available at Skyview.
Something About Me
Originally from Erie, PA, I attended my first year of college at Edinboro State University and then transferred to Penn State University where I received my BS in Rehabilitation, Education and Counseling in August 1991. In 1998, I received my Master's in School Counseling from Villanova University with PA certification as a secondary school counselor, grades 7-12, and in 2001 I earned my PA certification as an Elementary School Counselor, grades K - 6. I also hold national board certification as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Nationally Certified School Counselor (NCSC), and am licensed by the state of PA as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and by the American School Counseling Association as a Bullying Prevention Specialist.
I am currently a recent Past President of the Pennsylvania School Counseling Association, having served as President in 2012-13, and am an active member of school counseling professional organizations at the local, state and national levels.
In my 20th year of school counseling, I have been with Methacton School District for 9 1/2 years now, while prior to that I was a school counselor at a private special education school in Paoli, PA where I worked with children ages 11-14 with behavioral, social, emotional and medical needs for six years.
My counseling experiences with children and adolescents are varied. I worked several years as a school counselor for a middle school program for special needs students at a private school in PA, where I developed a school counseling curriculum that addressed the social and academic and independent living skill needs of its student population. I also acted as a transitions counselor helping students make the transition to new schools, job placements, and between grade levels. I also have worked for several years as a mental health therapist for children and adolescents and their families and I hold a Specialist Certification in Eating Disorders in California. I currently teach a graduate level school counseling course at Arcadia University and enjoy working with the University community very much.
ME TIME...
When I am not at school, I am with my family! My family consists of my husband, my daughter Annabelle (whom we adopted from South Korea in 2007), my son Aaidan (adopted from South Korea 2011) , 2 cats and 2 bunnies. I enjoy the outdoors, kayaking, hiking, camping in cabins, antiquing, and digital scrapbooking (my all time passion!).
A few of my favorite things: Chocolate, coffee, warm weather, sunny skies, peonies, lilacs, lily of the valley, vintage finds, architectural salvage
pieces, old letters and postcards, veggie pizza, Korean foods, sushi, jasmine tea, country music, cowgirl boots, and country style.
Come on over to my office on the second floor of the office suite, and tell me something about you! I love to have families come visit me! You are welcome to make an appointment at your convenience, so contact me soon!
